Wave Gliders recovered

On Sunday we recovered all three Wave Gliders.  All were found in good condition with only minor biofouling.

On each vehicle the umbilical (a 6 m faired cable connecting the surface float to the subsurface glider) was twisted multiple times.  Six months ago we installed a dozen tiny temperature recorders along the length of the umbilical on one vehicle.  Two of these sensors were lost but the data otherwise looks quite good.

The Wave Gliders were not alone in the ocean...

We accomplished all three recoveries in just over an hour.  For each vehicle, the small boat raced ahead and wrangled the Wave Glider.  Endeavor then came alongside and lifted the entire vehicle onto the deck.  A very smooth operation made almost effortless by light winds and calm seas.
